Working with Jan De Hartog on a public arts project sponsored by the Amsterdam Funds for the arts. The aim of the project is to both bring art to the public (who wouldn’t normally go to galleries), and to directly involve the public in the conception of the works of art. We conduct informal interviews with local residents and store owners who share with us their stories of life on this particular street in Amsterdam. We then create a series paintings based on the stories of everyday folks. So far we have a couple that met by getting into a fight in the local cafe, the beautiful postwoman from Columbia, a Berber (Morocco) hairdressing salon, an Indonesian clothing Boutique and the Rainbow bar. The opening Exhibition will be a community event, held outdoors in April.
