Was invited by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) to do a mural project for the reconstructive surgery program in Amman, Jordan.
such a privilege to get to meet and work with so many incredible people both staff and patients. This hospital takes in civilian victims of the wars in Iraq, Syria and Yemen and helps to reconstruct severely damaged body parts. The wars in these countries are the issue of our times, we have all read about the bombs dropping but so rarely do we hear the stories of the actual people whose lives are devastated by them.
This mural is a tiny gesture, a small gift to brighten up the lives of a few people. Creativity is a glimmer of hope that we can share. I am so great full to all the patients who shared a part of their life story with me, the patients and staff that helped to paint on the walls and particularly Eve Bruce for making it happen and Heba Melhm for being a great translator and documenter and my pops who assisted proceedings.
